I turned up for my first race of the 2008 season at the NYSD Cross country at Richmond. It was a different course than usual and a far better venue all round in my opinion. The parking, the location, the course, the views and the easy to get to start and finish for spectators. Thank you Richmond Zetland Harriers.
With nothing to loose it was all about placing than going out all guns blazing. So the first short lap was a nice warm up before the three long laps. Three of us broke away early on and a young lad (under 18) was doing a great job on the front. We managed to drop the New Marske Harrier and on the 2nd long lap which is where the under 18's finnish i thought i'd better show the young Scarborough lad who was boss, ("Never give anything and take what you can." a great motto i have inherrited from pirates) after that job was done it was just a case of getting round the final lap in good order. With plenty of back markers to chase down and over take it made for a good tough and fast last lap for my first victory of the season. All i need to do now is put my feet up and enjoy the high for the next few days. With a 100% race record for this season to say i'm over the moon is an underestimate. One race one win.
With the Cold virus almost gone now i should be looking forward to a couple of good weeks training before Hartlepool Marina 5. I keep recieving emails from Edinbrugh Marathon , only 10 weeks to go now says the latest one. It's fast approaching, it's a good job i'm not doing the London Marathon, i would be in total panick mode.
Ohhh Yeah. Sums the day up for me.

Gary, I am honoured to be on your hit list of runner's to beat. It's quite funny. I'll look out for that red laser from a sniper's rifle in future.
I've had the Edinburgh invite's aswell, but I'm doing Windermere on May 18th, and not London as I'm bored of it.
I've had a quiet last few months cause of my dad being ill, but I'm getting into it again.
Jamil has semi-retired with a niggling foot problem which always comes when he's in top form. I'm trying to get him back into it.
Glad you're like me are having some fun with the blog. You should check out my club sec's blog on Ultra distance training/racing - too much detail. Keep injury free and I hope to stay lucky (Hit List)

I remember those days, being able to beat 17 year olds at the drop of a hat, you should enter a fun-run, I've heard that's where the real racers cut their teeth!
Well done lad and keep it going!
Thanks for your comments it makes great reading.
