Last

I completed my last long run of 20 miles this weekend ready for the Edinburgh Marathon in three weeks time. Next weekend I make my first appearance in the Blacksheep Race Series Championship with the race being the Ripon 10 miler and the week after that it will be a steady fast 13 miler which should feel quite easy after all the 20 mile plus long runs. I spent most of this week having to cross train as my legs were stiff as hell after last weekends half marathon race, that's why I try to stay away from races over ten miles as it causes me to waste too much training time due to recovery. But on the other hand I am willing to miss some training in the hope the hard half marathon will strengthen my legs up ready for the marathon.
Using my race time from the Sheffield Half Marathon I will be aiming to run sub 2 hours 27 minutes for the marathon with the possibility of going sub 2 hours 26 minutes if I'm feeling good enough over the last 6 miles. Having got my predicted race time from 'race against race' it's still extremely hard even to achieve that time and you would need an unbelievable run to beat it. But it's all too easy to push yourself slightly too hard and end up failing miserably.

Hi Gary, I follow your progress on and off in the Ripon Gazette, I run for Ripon Runners and am doing my first Edinburgh Marathon this year. My knee has not been perfect since my last long run but its manageable and hoping to go for about 3:40. Have a good race.

Thanks lot.
I hope the knee is ok for the race and likewise have a good one. Where there's a race there is hope.
