I knocked out an eighteen miler this morning or I should say the eighteen miler knocked me out. The first twelve miles were ok but then it got tougher and tougher which was a result of my lack of fitness, but compared to my first run just under a week ago I have got to be happy with that. I haven't done any interval training against a fellow runner for well over a year now but this Wednesday I have taken up the opportunity to do just that and as an added bonus I get to check out a new area to train on so I'm really looking forward to that.
This time last year I was busy contemplating doing the London Marathon and this year even though I'm keen as hell to do it I will have no option but to wait until the end of the year before I can make any decisions due to the fact I will need the time to see if my ankle can cope with the high weekly mileage required to be competitive.
I have planned a mid week Trek in a couple of weeks time around the Yorkshire 3 Peaks route, it's more of a test trek to see if my newly purchased equipment and boots are up to the job for when I tackle some future Treks of between 60 and 84 miles. Besides once I have checked the 3 peaks route out it might just come in handy one day if I decide to do the 3 peaks race. I did the Lyke Wake Walk of 42 miles a few months ago and now I know that route I'm also quite keen to say the least to have ago at the annual race, I say go but in reality I would only do it if I thought I could break the course record and if I can get back to near my former fitness level I'm sure I could do it.
