Back to Business

The weather at the Kirkby Malzeard 10k was just about perfect for this latest race in the Blacksheep series championship. I was determined not to copy last years mistake of setting off to fast because you don't half pay for it later in the race, i finished 16 seconds faster than last year in 32 mins 42 secs (course record) and in a lot better condition, yet again route knowledge giving a good advantage. Before the race i had said my Marathon legs had well and truly recovered and during the race they felt absolutely fine if not stronger in some parts of the race as it was my cardiovascular system holding me back. On the final approach to the finish line i had the added bonus of racing some young kids around the field and only just about beat them. Tony Lambert of Swaledale Runners came in to take second also having to race the kids round the field. Team mate Phil Utley was soon home and well under his estimated finishing time and with Brett Edgeworth our third harrier home we took the Team prize. As they needed to get away they have forfeited there prize of Blacksheep beer, thanks lads.
I don't think my legs have felt so good after a hard 10k race, more marathons needed i think, but hey ! not that soon though.
Otley 10 mile race on Wednesday evening is my next race, hopefully route knowledge should help make this race slightly easier than last years hard slog. But none the less another race i enjoyed running last year.
