I was thinking on the lines that if I have a delayed start to my racing season due to injury then I could continue racing through August and September instead of it being my rest period. What I never imagined was how much being injured takes out of you, physically and mentally, and then add to the equation the extra effort required to get back to full fitness can only lead to being burnt out not long after I have just got going. I think I would be wise to concentrate on building a good running base for a good few months at least instead of trying to get back to full fitness as quick as possible. I will see how things go for the next few weeks and then I will decide which route back I should opt for ; Option A = Take the long scenic route back with no enjoyment of racing or Option B = Take a short cut and risk injury in the need for a fix of a race.
I managed the 14 mile round trip to and from work today which was quite uneventful until the last two miles, I was happily plodding away with my leg muscles tiring which was to be expected as I build up my running endurance but then I suddenly felt some slight ankle pain which was more than it has been for some time, I instantly slowed to an almost walking pace not that I was going much faster than that anyway. I just hope the ankle was reacting to the increase of mileage rather than reinjuring it, I will soon find out tomorrow morning.
The roller coaster ride of running goes on with another white knuckle section to deal with. " HOLD ON ! HERE WE GO AGAIN "
