Bonus Battle

I was concerned all week about it being too wet and muddy for the Wetherby 10k, as i wanted to win the time bonus of £100 for getting under 32 minutes. In the end the course was perfect it was the the bonus that turned out to be slippery in the end. At the 9km mark and with just 1km to go i had the bonus well within my grasp then in those last three minutes it managed to slip away from me. I managed to beat the Course Record by 8 seconds but missed the bonus by 6 seconds, but i did succeed in my first aim of winning the race. I'm sure i could of gone six seconds quicker, but in reality if i could of gone six seconds i would of done. I use this race as a preparation race for the Teespride 10k, but this race is right up there with the best of them, with plenty of entertainment for the family whilst your flogging yourself to bits.
Luckily i recovered just in time after my visit to the gym last Thursday, hopefully this week will turn out to be less painful afterwards. My race plan is looking a bit different to say the least this year, Teespride 10k, Gladiators Audition, NYSD Cross Country Race, 1/2 Marathon.
I'm hoping a bit of wisdom will aid my progress at the Gladiators audition. I've bought myself a Brooks Nightlife running long sleeve top, as it is fluorescent yellow with reflective stripes all over it should help stand out from the rest, unlike my usual self of blending into the background.
I predict i'll run 31 mins 42 seconds at Middlesbrough, but i'll be aiming for sub 31 mins 20 secs.
Lets just hope it's not too windy, this is my last chance to beat last years 10km P.B. time.

Hi Gary

Well done on your win in Wetherby at the weekend. I've just come across your blog for the first time and after reading the bit about weight training (on the right hand side) I thought I'd share my opinion.

You may know me as the wierd and strange secretary of Otley AC ... but on the subject of weight training, I began such training 12 months ago and I can say that without doubt my running has improved. And I'm definitely an endurance athlete ... I specialise in 24 hr races and my pb this time last year was 205k, now it's 221k and I'll be aiming for at least 225k in London in mid October.

Just don't overdo it with the weights.
