Thirsk 10 - Five Alive.

Today was the Thirsk 10 mile with the Northern 10 Mile Championships incorporated into the race. The weather was slight rain, deep puddles and hardly any wind. So overall it wasn't too bad of a day for running. The race started and somehow that little demon on my shoulder took control and sent me flying down the road, the first mile was passed in 4 minutes 46 seconds and unbelievably I was some way off the leaders. I then quickly switched into a more comfortable pace and luckily the fast start hadn't caused me any difficulties. I haven't any idea why but I almost felt like my old self, with the pace I was pounding along at. Three mile went by in 14 minutes 57 seconds and by the five mile marker I had equalled my best ever time over that distance with a time of 25 minutes and 07 seconds. Bloody hell ! Was all I could think of. Six miles in 30 minutes 30 seconds and this is where I could feel myself slowing, the comfortable cruise mode became a battle to keep the same speed. Mike Burret from Leeds City pulled away slightly from me at around the five mile point and for the next five miles I surged and put in some serious efforts but unbelievably the gap always stayed the same. In the last mile I was over taken by another Leeds runner and as much as I tried I just couldn't get my position back. I finished in 10th position in 52 minutes 55 seconds. After being in PB breaking territory for most of the race I eventually ended up one minute sixteen seconds down on my best. But I am more than pleased with that performance after an unsure last few weeks. I was also the first V40 which was good, really good for some strange reason. Dave Webb from Leeds City won the race in 48 minutes 30 seconds or there abouts with Andrew Pearson in second place in 48 minutes 54 seconds. Sarah Jarvis from Bingley AKA running bear was the Ladies Champion.

Winner - D.Webb

2nd - A Pearson

1st Lady - S.Jarvis

Well raced Gary. I meant to congratulate you afterwards but had to get off. 5 seconds below your target time?

Where are the photos?

Thanks for the mention and well done for a fine run today. Not a bad performance I reckon after all your blogged misgivings about your current fitness these last couple of weeks. Well done.
