End game.

 Hold it right there mister.
I was happy with the way my hill training was taking effect and I still had plenty more weeks to go in my plan to improve my climbing ability, that was until the other night when I came across an area in my running  that at the  moment has a weaker link. I found that my top end cruising speed is now being prevented from going any faster due to a weaker cardiovascular system compared to my legs. This is easy enough to fix with a dose of serious fast intervals with a short recovery time.  ( It works for me anyway ). That is my my next four Wednesdays pencilled into my training plan unless something else wants to try and stop me from hitting my targets.
Normally I call an end to my season at the end of July and try to take a month out away from racing and hard training, besides by then I'm usually mentally worn out and can't face racing anymore anyway. Not so this year as I'm still 100% keen to be racing and I am now  planning on making December my time out month, that's if I can keep going that long. Snow, sleet, rain, dark nights and mornings, Christmas and the New year, drinking and eating too much and no doubt man flu of some sort. That's it I have convinced myself 3oth November is my season end which ties in nicely as that is my birthday as well.
Back to the present and my 5k world which is the main driving force behind all my training. My long term goal is getting a medal at a 5km masters national road race championships and  I would need to be capable of getting under sixteen minutes if I'm to have any chance. The parkrun at Ripon is absolutely perfect for my needs, the course is not too flat and I feel it has plenty of areas that I can try to improve on. With it being located in a valley the conditions seem to be very consistent and I have finished each of my runs there so far this year within a few seconds of what I had guesstimated before hand. Hopefully my next visit will be the same as I plan on getting under the 17 minute barrier, along way off the 16 minute barrier but I will look forward to trying to fight my way towards it second by second. I have plenty of time as the championships are not until June 2017.
