Not so Burntout Leonard 10k
Burton Leonard 10k - Yet again i set off a bit to fast after telling a lot of people the best way to run this race is to take it bit easier for the first third as the latter part of the race is quite hard going. After shooting off down the road they must think i'm sure he told us to take it easy at the start. But this year with it being quite muddy and slippy in sections i had time to ease back and then push on again when getting back on the tarmac. The last mile going up the hill i still felt quite strong unlike the previous years where i remember suffering like hell up them. After crossing the line and grabbing a drink , i checked my watch to see how much time i had put into the second place runner , i was thinking probably 2 minutes but at 50 seconds Tony Lambert came racing in. 50 seconds ! Looks like i'll be keeping a close eye on him in future. I'm sure he must of took a few shortcuts as his trainers were cleaner than those on display at the sports shop. I think Thirsk should get him signed up as second claim for the winter cross country , I'm still trying to persuade Robert Addyman another good runner to join us this winter , but i think he prefers the views at fell races , and if Tony is from James Herriot Trail Race land i can see why he wouldn't want to run round some muddy field when you have countryside like that to run round. About half way round the race it suddenly dawned on me that i had mixed up the conversation i had at the start of the race. Instead of talking about my blog i had been talking about the Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers website which i also write up. Nothing like keeping focused on the race is there. Last race for a while next Sunday then it's time to get back training and learning to practice what i preach. i.e Keep focused , don't set off to fast.
