Carlton Challenge Recce

Saturday's session at the gym was just the tonic I needed, not too hard and a change from running, Oh! and a chance to try out my new weight lifting gloves whilst it was quiet. Then today I opted for a easy five and half miles recce around the Carlton Challenge Fell Race course with the dog for company for a change. After completing the route and settling down to a cup of coffee two Club mates turned up with the same idea of checking the route out before the race on Tuesday evening. Alan Wikeley and Cameron Choules kindly persuaded me to get changed and get another lap in. A slightly slower pace than the first lap but it went a lot quicker having somebody else to talk to other than the dog.
My plan now is to ease back slightly and not put too much pressure on myself at races until the Melmerby 10k, which is where it will be time to be in peak condition and be fully race ready for the marathon the week after.
A couple of my Local rivals did really well at the Redcar Half Marathon it's just a pity they didn't beat the Kenyans that had turned up for some good prize money but they weren't too far behind. I like to keep a close eye on my rivals and see what they've been doing, but you don't have to look to hard to see what Bulman from North Yorkshire Moors has been doing. It's probably harder to find a race he's not been running in. Not an easy task I can tell you running that many races competitively.
