Good to go, I repeat good to go.

At last ! Today I ran 7 mile run to work and then the extended route back home after work without any pain coming from that sodding little toe that was causing me so much trouble. Thursday's gym session was another P.B. smashing time which in turn made today's runs even more satisfying knowing I'm ready to race again. I keep thinking about racing the Whorlton Fell Race on Tuesday evening but I know I should be saving my energy for the following weekend where I'm planning on winning the British Masters 5km championship. My next big aim is to get selected for the British Vets. I wasn't even registering on any of the selectors radars but thanks to Andy Chaddfield of Billingham Marsh House Harriers the winner at the recent Kirkby Malzeard 10k I am now known to one of the selectors at least after Andy informed him of me.
Another amazing thing happened this week. After trying to get under 10 stone for weeks before the marathon I eventually gave up and came to the conclusion my new race weight would just have to be 10 stone 1lb. So the week after the marathon as a treat I ate loads of biscuits, cakes and drank most of my Blacksheep Beer stock that I had accumulated. Then this week I jumped on the scales and after settling on 10 stone 2lb would be justifiable, my weight was down to 9 stone 13 lb. So the secret to loosing weight is cakes, biscuits and beer, now that does sound like a diet I can stick to.
One hour of speed work tomorrow and a 12 miler Sunday should ensure any Ideas of racing midweek are terminated, especially if I run to and from work Monday and Tuesday.
If the weather manages to stay sunny for the last week in June I am planning on venturing over to Otley to watch the town centre bike race, with the added treat of fish and chips to munch away at whilst watching others suffer. Last year it rained non stop which made the whole evening more of an endurance event than something of enjoyment.
