After the Burn Valley Half Marathon I have been suffering with a sore foot. The ball of my right foot must be bruised in some sort of way as when I try and run it feels like I've got a stone in my shoe. Just as I get rid of one problem up pops another one.
I managed to get to the club on Wednesday for 1km hard effort of running by 2 minutes rest with a total of five to complete the session. To ensure everyone gets a good workout in the group we run in different lanes so we all more or less finish the distance at the same time. I set off around 120 metres behind the start line and have the outside of the track to run round so my 1km effort must end up as 1.3km. I usually finish ahead of the group in the first efforts but then start slowing down each effort after that until the last one where I am absolutely stuffed and finish mid-field. It doesn't do much for your confidence for fast finishing but I do know there's nowt left in the tank by the end. Anyway it didn't do my foot any good and has set me back slightly as I now need to be fit for the race on Sunday.
Today my new training shoes were delivered and I'm contemplating running the Kilburn 7 mile in these, or switching to some old race shoes to see if it's my current race shoes causing the foot problem. I can't believe I have missed another week of training and have so many important races to fit in before the end of the month. It will just have to be a case of accepting a decline in performance and try not to ponder too much on being beaten by my close rivals.
I might not of done much running this week but yet again the gym came to the rescue for a dose of much needed exercise.
Another problem I find when I'm unable to run is I have a tendency to comfort eat so therefore not only do I loose some fitness I also get slower having to carry all the extra weight. On the upside my foot doesn't feel too bad today so Kilburn it is.
