Today was like a home game as the race today was just down the road at Kilburn. (The Kilburn 7 mile road race, but it's actually 7 mile 351 yards or there abouts) It's a strange race for me this one as I spend quite a bit of time running around this route in winter time but come race day it feels a whole lot harder. After last weeks half marathon in the hills at Masham I was trying to convince myself that this race should feel like a stroll in the park compared to that. From the start Paul Lowe NYM AC and Phil Taylor Bridlington and myself formed a group at the front with Andy Chaddfield Billingham not far behind. Lowe pushed the pace on at the front and Taylor looked to be coping with the pace with ease so yet again it looked like I was going to have a real hard days racing. As we reached Coxwold and the steep long descent Taylor took over with setting the pace with myself along side and Lowe seemed to be breathing quite heavily, was he trying to trick me or was he just not as comfortable with the speed down hill but stronger on the uphills ? As we reached the half way point Lowe had lost contact with us and then we started the long drag uphill to Oldstead , Taylor gradually pulled away from me. The last one and half miles which is mostly do

wn hill is great for making up some lost time but usually most people are to knackered by then. This time I managed to give some extra hard blasts but the gap to Taylor wasn't closing so 2nd it was for me today in a time of 38 minutes 52 seconds. Taylor won the race in 38 minutes 17 seconds, Lowe was 3rd and Chaddfield not far behind Lowe came in 4th. The mental strength is wearing away quite quickly now after many weekends of hard racing and August the month of no racing for me can't come soon enough.
