The Great Wetherby Battle.

Wetherby 10k. The final round of the Blacksheep Championship. Today's race was two battles in one, first of all it was a race for overall victory and secondly more important for me was making sure that I finished in the top four of the Blacksheep runners. I had plenty of good competition in both aspects of the race and seeing as I'm just coming back from a break doubts had managed to work their way into my thoughts.
From the start Meade who is my main rival in the Blacksheep Championship took the lead with team mate Bilton right behind him, Scot from Richmond was next and then myself. After one and half miles or so Bilton managed to breakaway into the lead, Meade still working hard then opened up a gap to myself but Scot had gone with him. By half way and going up a slight incline I put in a hard effort and joined the two runners ahead but unfortunately only for a few seconds as Meade surged once again. Around the four mile mark I slowly but surely reeled the two runners ahead in once again. It was a strange thing to see as I kept an even pace watching Meade continuously surging and Scot matching him stride for stride. Eventually Scot broke clear as I caught and passed Meade, only for him to come surging past me again. I stuck with my own pace and eventually left Meade and caught Scot who was in 2nd place with Bilton just ahead in 1st place. On a slight incline with a mile to go Scot once again opened up a slight lead on me which he maintained all the way to the finish to finish in 2nd. I came in 3rd in 33 minutes 05 seconds so I have plenty of work to do to get back to full fitness and only just behind me was Meade.
The Wetherby 10k continued with it's excellent organisation from start to finish and I have no doubt what so ever that I'll be there again next year.
Saving the best till last I am the Blacksheep Brewery Race Series Champion 2010.
