Time to see someone.
The test run didn't give me the result I was after, I suffered some ankle pain so it looks like I will continue with my plan to see the sports therapist on Tuesday night. My ankle seems to be improving each week but at a very slow rate and at this rate I should be 96 years old when I should be good to go again. My fitness level seems to be hovering around the point where I return to running after my summers rest period, which means as soon as I'm good to go again it should only take about 4 weeks to get to mid 33 minutes for 10km's.

Anybody who has ever gone over on their ankle knows how painful these things are. I remember trying to run through it with mine once. It's not a good experience to be running with that sort of pain. If it's ligaments they can take ages to heal and trying to maintain fitness with other things is hard work too. In my view running fitness can only be achieved by running, but it still helps by doing other things to get back to the level where you were.
Good luck with it.
I totally agree with you on the running fitness can only be achieved by running. As for doing other things I have smashed all my weight lifting PB's this week, not that I think it will help me run 10k any quicker.
