After not doing the Albert Park Run 5k on Saturday morning I decided to punish myself and did a good hard hill training session on Sunday. My legs were quite stiff to say the least on Monday so I took it easy and prepared myself to do another 5k time trial on Tuesday.
My plan was to shave a good ten seconds off my last 5k time trial. The idea was good but in reality I faced a few problems. One being that ten seconds seemed to be a bit over ambitious and secondly my legs still didn't feel that good. After a twelve minute warm up I started the 5k test, I managed to keep up with my pacing plan but then cracked after eleven minutes unable to take any more punishment.
I was a bit down with my failure but then after remembering and taking some inspiration from Graeme Obree the Flying Scotsman I decided that I would try again the day after. Obree failed in his attempt to break the world hour record on his bike but after a rethink and a few modifications he went on to break the world record the day after. I decided just to try and shave five seconds off my time rather than the ten and with my new plan off I went tonight for a 5k retest. 17 minutes 14 seconds. Four seconds quicker than last time, I wish I could of knocked the extra second off to achieve my five second plan but to be honest I don't think I could of. Anyway I'm happy with that and I can now look forward to next weeks test ( torture) of beating my time from last weeks 1.5 mile time trial.
