I travelled up to Middlesbrough to take on the Albert Park Run 5k but unfortunately the course had had some bad icy sections on it. So I had a choice to make, I could either do the race cautiously and finish with a time a few minutes slower than my capabilities or I could of opted to go out all guns blazing with the risk of slipping and doing an ankle in again. It took about a 18 months to get my ankle right again the last time I did it in after slipping on ice so I opted not to race at all and save myself for another race soon.
After not doing much Thursday and Friday as I prepared for the Park Run and then not racing on Saturday it doesn't half make me feel as if I have lost a load of fitness in that short time even though obviously I haven't. Anyway I will do another 5k time trial this week just to be on the safe side.
I have the thirty mile trek this coming Friday to look forward to seeing as we had to postpone it a few weeks ago, and then before we know it it will be Christmas. I will try and squeeze a Park Run in before the New Year, "Be prepared" I say to myself , I will take my spikes with me next time.
44 on Friday so just 12 months left to get to full speed. I have looked at my age adjusted times and my 5k time works out at 16 minutes 10 seconds. Now that looks better. My age adjusted 1 1/2 mile test works out at 7 minutes 24 seconds so maybe I can get under the 7 minute barrier after all.
