Dr Dunn.

I woke up the next morning after the Otley 10 mile race and my right hamstring/knee was sore and stiff as hell. This obviously was the result of the cramp problem during the race. Friday was the same if anything it seemed to be stiffening up even more as i could hardly walk. Saturday the problem was more or less the same. If my knee was left bent for some time then getting it back straight was agony, but if left in the straight position for some time it was easy to get walking. I googled away for some time and came to the conclusion i had a torn, ripped hamstring with cartilage and tendon problems with bruising and strained muscles connecting to the posterior cruciate ligament , oh and a sore ego as well.
This morning i felt almost fit and healthy, just a slight stiffness, so i though i better be careful and not rush into anything silly so i went on a hilly 10 miler. Luckily enough it actually feels even better now, not worth risking in a race yet. So it will be training only from now until the Rainton 10k. I will be aiming to get back down to race weight, fit in a good long run and some hard interval sessions in by then.
I think i could earn some money on the side diagnosing sports injuries, i'll let you into a little secret, the answer to all problems is rest, ice, compression and elevate. I find Hazel nuts work for me , eating them that is ,not strapping them around the injury.

Hello Gary, I just thought I would reply to the one you sent me prior to doing our Otley 10.
Yes, I have been off the Blogger radar cause I've been doing stuff like putting windows in and laying some paving. Even my Otley AC apprentice sent me a text last weeknd to update the blogger.

Don't get too disheartened about your Otley 10 run. It was only 17 days after your marathon. When I heard about your cramp etc at two miles it did make sense.
Darren is one the best all round 5km to marathon runner in Yorkshire. He has been consistant for a long time. He is the second best runner to beat on your hit list....after me naturally ha ha.
He's a good approachable bloke is Darren, he was taken back by your hit-list, but I explained it was all in good faith.
Good luck at Rainton 10k
