Poor old feet do the job.

I said that there was no turning back and so onwards it was to the start at Horwich for the British Masters National 5km Championship Race. The race was to be over three laps around the town centre with each lap ending with a 400 metre uphill section. After a slight delay from the planned start time the race began. Instantly the speed was high and so I adopted the defensive mode whilst I evaluated the situation, the pace was hard and I was struggling by the end of the first lap sitting in 4th place, one of the runners was a V35 so I was still in a medal position. Finishing the second lap the V35 runner had pulled ahead whom I had beaten at the Sheffield Half Marathon Race at the end of April but was now finding this distance more to his liking. There then was a slight a gap to second and another gap to third and me fourth. I was still struggling with the pace and was hoping to be able to outsprint the runner I was with for the silver medal but starting the uphill section for the last time I faded and therefore had to settle for the Bronze medal. I finished in 15 minutes 37 seconds which was 12 seconds behind the Gold Medal winner and 5 seconds behind the silver medal winner. I'm sort of pleased with bronze but I'm sure I would of taken Gold if I was fully fit.
I really need to get back to full training but the holes in each foot where the blisters used to be are sore as hell plus for some reason the muscle and other bits of organs in there ache like chuff as well. Rest is what is needed to get back to full health but with so many important races to fit in, rest is not an option.
