This past week of not running has gone by far to quickly but I did enjoy all the extra food and beer. I took on a steady 10 mile run today just to ease back into training, for the next two weeks I will be concentrating in trying to get my weekly mileage to around 80 miles but definitely nothing too hard that I need to waste time recovering from. I've only been away from racing for one weekend and already I'm missing it and looking forward to the Wetherby 10k in September.
To make up for the lack of running I went out with some lads from Hambleton Road Club biking last Thursday evening, the route was around 35 miles and we managed to average 22.8mph on some undulating back roads. It turned out to be a good hard training session and by the time I had finished my legs didn't have any more than a couple of fast miles left in them.
I spent some time planning my weekly training which I will be getting stuck into after my holiday. This time I will drop a weight training session and replace it with an hour of cross training on the cardiovascular machines. Instead of two fast hard speed sessions per week I will be just doing the one and switching the other for some long hill interval training in the hope of gaining some extra power for the loss of a tiny amount of speed.
How I'm actually going to fit all this training in with the amount of races on offer is a mystery with cross country races, road races, fell races and not forgetting an indoor track race or two.
