Ice road plodders.

It had just gone  8.30am when me and Phil Utley set off on our long run, Phil was recovering from a cold and seeing as I had not been running for over a week the plan was to take it steady and we both agreed one and half hours was more than enough. It was raining slightly which seemed to be ok as we set off but we soon came across frozen compacted snow sections with an extra film of rain on top just to make running extremely difficult. It didn't take long before I came crashing down but luckily just bounced back up again with no problems, onwards we went with arms every so often going into a wild windmill rotating action as we fought  to stay upright. The field sections didn't seem any better than the track sections and in no time a hour had passed but to be honest we hadn't covered much ground. I estimated the run would be extended to one hour and forty minutes. Even the sections I thought would be quite good for running on had become lethal and with every stride my leg also took on a funny fling outwards as it counteracted the slipping motion, which in turn just made my hip muscles stiffen up and ache more than the injured ankle. We eventually made it back to base in a total time of two hours eight minutes, not only are my muscles aching in my legs but my neck and shoulder muscles are also aching from all the arm flinging manoeuvres I managed to do.  I had the GPS watch on but it must be faulty as it says we only ran 14 miles in 2 hours 8 minutes.

Pleased to read you survived the experience, Gary. Suggest all things considered your garmin is working well! You'll find off road runs are somewhat slower than you would expect. You may well find that some of your regular road runs are shorter than you thought as well.
Look forward to reading if you achieved all you aimed for in the past year.

Sounds like a good idea to blog on my thoughts and results from races over the past year.
Oh! All the best for the new year Terry.
