I opted for long steady trail run today and managed 2 1/2 hours, I say steady but my legs were just about done in by the end with all the hills to deal with. All I have been doing for the last 3 weeks is steady runs so it's quite surprising to find that my fitness level is improving along with my speed but the best part is being able to enjoy the long weekend run without too much ankle trouble.
My training plan of building upto to a 3 hour run is now well within my sights and way ahead of what I had thought possible so soon which in turn means I should be ready to throw a speed session in once aweek. I have a 3 day rest period now whilst I go and watch my fellow runners suffer in the London Marathon the funny thing is three weeks go I knew I had no chance of being able to run 20 miles never mind 26.2 but now I reckon I'm only a week or two away from being able to run a marathon. I had better leave my trainers at home so I don't get any daft ideas of thinking I might as well have a go.
The Melmerby 10k race at the end of May is looking like a good place to start racing again, I will use the race as a guide to see what my fitness level is like and also to remind my heart and lungs what it's like to race. The week after I should see some improvement as my body adapts to race mode as I plan to take on the Kirkby Malzeard 10k and then onto my main goal the Rainton 10k.
