Tell me what you know ?

 Wednesday 23rd Novemeber

Last weekends race went as I had expected nothing more nothing less, but it left me with a depressed feeling in my running world for some reason strange reason. On Wednesday I headed off for my weekly speed training at the Leisure Centre with the plan of giving it absolutely everything and a bit more to try and boost my morale. I set the session so it was just about impossible for me to complete it but I knew I would dig deep anyway to try and finish it. One minute and twenty five seconds at 22kmh with a jog recovery of three minutes thirty five seconds with ten reps of this to complete. My mind was first programmed to achieve a minimum of six reps which I managed with some extreme effort and then it was a case of telling myself that I had to do eight reps at all costs even if I went flying off the end of the treadmill at the end. Once I had managed eight then it was a case of thinking if I could do nine reps then I would be very pleased, if it was some form of torture interrogation technique then I would of been willing to tell them everything I knew so how the hell I managed that tenth a final rep is a complete mystery either that or blacked out.

Saturday 26th Novemeber

With family commitments this weekend I would have to miss Sunday's long run so to make up for it I planned to give it everything with my hill training on Saturday. I didn't feel too good as the training session started but as time went by it made no difference as  I was completing my pre-set targets, after an hour I had completed the training session and once again I had made another small step forward in the direction of progress.

I will miss next weeks long run which I'm not too bothered about as I will be doing a winter crossing of the 42 mile Lyke Wake Walk. Starting at 3.00 am should see us finish hopefully before 4.00pm to give us a sub 13 hour crossing and before it gets dark. Last time in June it took me a day or two to get over it so I wouldn't of thought I would be up for a long run or even a cross country race a couple days afterwards this time around.

I'm 43 on Wednesday so I'm neither a young V40 or and old V40 but it would be great to be able to be putting up a challenge for a National Masters medal once again. Next years national masters cross country championships are at Bath which is just a bit too far for my liking but I haven't ruled it out totally just yet.
