20kmh and counting.

I have now spent the best part of four months aiming to run 5k at 20kmh. I managed to run 5k at 19.8kmh but trying to smash 20kmh is taking some doing. I have built up over the months seeing how long I can last at said speed, I started off with being able to do nine minutes and just before my holiday I managed twelve minutes and today I knocked out thirteen minutes. Only another two and half  minutes to go, so near but yet so far. In real terms I reckon the extra 0.2kmh should get my 5k road race time down to 15 minutes 36 seconds or a Gold medal if I went back in time to the National Masters 5k championships. Wishful thinking.
I'm looking forward to racing again either next week or the week after, nothing too serious other than building up for my next two big targets. The Leeds Abbey Dash 10k in mid November were I will be targeting at least a sub 33 minute time and then a 3000mtr indoor track race at Sheffield in December were I will trying to beat my personal best time.
I'm off to the dogs at Sunderland on Friday night and I will see if I still have that magic touch with the betting. Favourites be warned, if my money goes on your back your going down. Even if there was only one dog in the race it wouldn't make it round. My mate used to own a grey hound, he gave it some Viagra before a race once and it won easily but he said he has never been so embarrassed as when it caught the rabbit at the end.
