The race - Carlton Challenge Fell Race 5.5miles approx.
Trail/Fell Shoes on test Inov8 Terroc 330
As soon as i set off in full race speed mode i knew the products attached to my feet were not up to the task in hand. After being advised by the shop assistant at the running shop that the above mentioned shoes would be ideal for the hard trails of the N.Yorkshire moors i agreed with him and thought i'll loose a bit on traction but gain on the harder track/trail stuff. How wrong. With fell shoes you are really close to the ground and roll with each uneven foot strike without problem, in them Inov8 terroc trail shoes it felt like i was running in a pair of platform shoes and went over on my ankles more times than i can remember. But other than that i raced home to a clear victory by over two minutes. Over a minute slower than last year but with the lack of a close rival and them dodgy shoes i will allow for that. Another lesson learnt the hard way.
Thirsk and Sowerby were out in force for a change and with Richard Hall, Pete Wilkin and Walter Busuttil we took the team prize. The Ladies took the team prize as well as other individual prizes. It was great to actually feel quite warm at the start of a race, it has been that long now i almost forgot how pleasant racing can be.
I am now looking forward to this coming Sundays race at the Fountains 10k, which is also the first race of the Blacksheep Race Series.
