Gladiator ready. Contestant ready. Errr ! No !

Seeing as it looks like Gladiators won't be making a TV come back any time in the near future I have modified my weight training routines and instead of going for heavy weights I'm now selecting lighter weights and doing three times as many reps. So it's out with the big bulky iron muscles and in with the all new light weight and hard as hell titanium muscles. That's the theory anyway.
Wednesday's speed session was with Phil Utley and involved running 3 minutes fast with a 2 minute fast jog  recovery with 8 to do and to mark the overall distance covered which will act as a target to beat next time. I have no doubts that I'm improving each week and each week Phil is improving at the same rate so not only will it be good to see how I fare in my first race back but it will also be very interesting to see how Phil gets on at his next race compared to his last. Each rep and recovery was just under a lap of the grass field around the sports complex at Knayton which worked out really well because each rep was different than the last as the uphill section was tackled at a various time in each set.
At the moment I can manage around 1 1/2 hours before my ankle starts to stiffen up but it's still improving little by little each week so no worries there.  I will limit my long runs for the time being  to around 15 miles, I have no immediate plans to do any marathons so 15 is just fine by me until the day a marathon appears on my race calendar.
