2012 feels good.

Week one of the New Year and the diet is going well and for the foreseeable future I'm only doing training sessions that appeal to me so I'm becoming more of a keep fit fanatic than any sort of competitive runner. I might even get my bike back out for a couple of long rides once the weather improves and I have also got another long distance walk planned to do in two weeks time, the White Rose Challenge. The route goes from the White Horse at Kilburn North Yorkshire to Roseberry Topping near Great Ayton 36 to 40 miles across the North York Moors. After speeding along with haste for god knows how many years either bike racing or running I find it really enjoyable to actually take time to take in the scenery.
I won't be vanishing completely from the race scene as I do intend to do some races this year more for the enjoyment factor rather than trying to beat any of my PB's or beat anyone, I'd like to do the Burn Valley Half Marathon without having the need to push myself to the limits saying that though if your not on top of your game you would probably need to give it your all just to finish the tough course.
Another long distance walk that I'm really looking forward to later on in the year is the 60 mile hike from Lancaster Castle to Richmond Castle which is known as the Richmond Way.

I came across a quote the other day which more or less sums up what you're saying:

"To be a lifelong athlete, you have to - at some point - get over the need to win every race and learn to accept that the journey is the goal".

I think I'm beginning to learn!
