Happy 18

The time had come for my second 5km time trial which was ten days after my last time trial. I managed a very pleasing 17 mins 44 secs last time so my aim was to go sub 17 mins 30 secs, I programmed my mind into believing the task would be very hard but  achievable. The treadmill takes well over twenty seconds to get up to speed so my reckoning now is that the treadmill 5km could be very close to an outdoor one if you allow for the extra effort put in during a competitive race, just so long as the going is really good outside and there isn't any strong winds. I will soon find out that's for sure.
17 minutes 26 seconds is what I managed today which was a good 18 seconds off my last effort. Surely I will have to target 17 mins 15 secs for my next time trial test in another ten days time. By the time I get to my first park run come mid November I am pretty sure I will be gunning for a sub 17 minute run.
I think my long term plan is to target the 5km races with maybe an odd 10km race thrown in with the aim of going to the National 5km championships when I move to the V45 category, I have a couple of National Bronze medals so some silver or gold would compliment them nicely, at least I have plenty of time on my hands.
