After yesterdays 5km test I thought I would do a back to back hard session to see how I'm responding to the training and to see if I'm getting used to doing hard sessions once again. I set off down to the gym for some hill work on the treadmill with my training plan worked out on the journey there. After a warm up I started the work out which was to be forty minutes long with the first twenty minutes to be quite hard but not too hard but to be honest I was struggling and by the time I reached the twenty minute point and upped the gradient I was hanging on thinking maybe I'm not ready for the back to back sessions just yet. I cracked after thirty minutes and couldn't take any more punishment and ended up having to jog slowly to finish the forty minute plan.
Ah ha ! After filling in my training log I realised that I was trying to complete a session from when I was fully fit so all is not as bad as I first thought. That will teach me for not checking what I should be capable of achieving before setting off and on the plus side I have had one hell of a tough session.
